The bar sits at the very top of the screen, over the menu bar and the notch, so your eyes stay next to the lens. It stays put over other apps and over anything running full screen. Move the pointer up into the menu bar and your clicks go to macOS, not to the prompter, so the clock and your menus still work.
Say which screen the prompter opens on and it opens there every time — this take and every one after. Unplug that monitor and it steps over to the built-in screen; plug it back in and it comes home on its own. The choice sits in Settings, and in the menu bar icon; it only appears when you have more than one screen.
The microphone listens for your voice. Text moves while you speak, and about half a second after you stop it waits for you. Wander off script, cough, think for a moment, take a sip of tea. It waits. Turn on Voice auto-start and it begins the moment you do.
One switch and the window drops out of screen shares and screen recordings. You still read it; the meeting, the webinar and the finished file don’t.
Press E, paste what you’re reading, press Done. The editor opens right over the prompter and folds away again, so there’s no second window to hunt for thirty seconds before a take.
Drag a .docx, .txt or .md onto the window and the words land in the editor. The script your client sent you on Friday goes straight in.
Three, two, one, and off it goes, so you can settle your face before the first line. Turn on Loop and the script starts over at the end. Handy when you’re recording the same forty seconds for the eleventh time.
Typeface, size, weight, line height, alignment and text colour, all in one place. Sitting further from the desk than usual? Make the letters bigger and the lines looser until it reads without a squint.
Set the colour behind the text, then decide how much of your desktop shows through it. Edge fade softens the top and bottom of the text so lines arrive and leave gently instead of snapping in.
Slow, Normal and Fast for when you can’t be bothered, and a slider for when you can. Nudge it mid-take from the keyboard without touching the mouse.
The panel opens on tabs next to the prompter and the window grows to make room, instead of covering the thing you’re adjusting. You change the size and you see the size change.
Space plays and pauses, arrows change speed and nudge the text, E opens the editor, S the settings, R goes back to the top. Don’t like one? Click it and press the key you’d rather use. Escape always closes the panel, whatever you’ve rebound.
Reading through a beam-splitter rig? Flip the text and it comes out the right way round on the other side of the glass.

Nana’s Teleprompter lives in the menu bar. Turn on the Dock icon and it also shows up in the Dock and in Cmd+Tab, with a menu of its own. Turn it off and it goes back to being quiet.
A quiet check at launch, and a Check now button in About when you’d rather ask yourself. Nothing installs behind your back, and a failed check never pretends you’re up to date.
Paste the key from your purchase email and that’s that. Changing machine? Release the seat in Settings and the same key works on the new one.
The numbering doesn’t start at one because the app doesn’t either. It spent a while as Peek Script before Nana took it in.

A seat isn’t nailed down. Change machine and you release the seat in Settings, then paste the same key on the new Mac.
Requires a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) on macOS 11 or later, and permission to use the microphone if you want the voice scrolling. Signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens without warnings.
